Robyn A. McCausland, 55, of Brunswick died Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Maine Medical Center in Portland of a sudden 
illness. She was born in Brunswick on November 11, 1951, the daughter of Wilbur and Estelle Purinton. She was a 
1970 graduate of Brunswick High School and a 1974 graduate of the University of Southern Maine. 

On June 27, 1975 she married Stephen McCausland. 

She served a brief time as a teacher in the Brunswick school system and then operated her own nursery school 
“Robyn’s Nest” for a decade. For the past 20 years she was a sales manager for manufactured housing in Brunswick, 
first at Maplewood Park and in recent years for Linnhaven Park. 

Robyn served ten years on the Brunswick School Board from 1988 to 1997, including two years as chairman. During 
that time she advocated for the construction of a new high school and helped initiate community service as a 
requirement for high school graduation. As chairman of the school board, she broke the ground for the 
construction of the new high school, which opened in 1995. She also had served as a member of the local 
vocational education board and was active for several years as a volunteer for the rape crisis center. 

She was an active member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church serving on the vestry board and numerous committees 
and oversaw part of the church’s Christmas Fair for nearly 20 years. 

She was an advent hiker and had climbed the major mountains in Maine and New Hampshire. She was preparing a 
climb in the White Mountains of New Hampshire on July 4th, when she was stricken. 

Robyn is survived by her husband, Stephen McCausland, and their daughter, Jennifer McCausland who is scheduled 
to give birth to Robyn’s only grandchild in August. Robyn is also survived by her mother, Estelle Purinton of 
Topsham, her sister, Deborah Brough of Durham and her brother, Daniel Purinton of California. 

A celebration of her life will take place at 3PM Friday, July 13th in the Crooker Theater at the Brunswick High 
School on Maquoit Road followed by a reception in the Brunswick High School Cafeteria. Burial will be held 
at a later date in New Meadows Cemetery on Purinton Road in Brunswick.
